ऐतिहासिक महत्व :

भारतीय चिकित्सा अनुसंधान परिषद (ICMR) की 100 वर्ष के उपलक्ष्य में जारी किया गया 5 रुपये का सिक्का इस संगठन के चिकित्सा अनुसंधान, सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य और भारत में स्वास्थ्य देखभाल में हुए उन्नति में शताब्दी भर के योगदानों का स्मारक है। 1911 में स्थापित, ICMR दुनिया के सबसे बड़े और प्रमुख चिकित्सा अनुसंधान निकायों में से एक है। इसने विशेष रूप से भारत में चिकित्सा विज्ञान को आगे बढ़ाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है। ICMR ने रोगों की रोकथाम, टीके विकास, और चिकित्सा निदान के क्षेत्रों में अहम योगदान दिया है। इसके कार्यों का सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य नीतियों और स्वास्थ्य देखभाल प्रणालियों पर, भारत और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर, दीर्घकालिक प्रभाव पड़ा है।
