ऐतिहासिक महत्व :

भारत सरकार ने लाला लाजपत राय की 150वीं जयंती का समारोह मनाते हुए और उनकी विरासत को सम्मानित करने तथा भारत की स्वतंत्रता की यात्रा में उनके स्थायी योगदान को पहचानते हुए, यह सिक्का 2015 में जारी किया।
लाला लाजपत राय भारत के महानतम स्वतंत्रता सेनानियों, सामाजिक सुधारकों और विचारकों में से एक थे। 28 जनवरी 1865 को जन्मे, “पंजाब का सिंह” के रूप में जाने जाने वाले, लाला लाजपत राय ने भारत की स्वतंत्रता के संघर्ष में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। वह प्रसिद्ध लाल-बाल-पाल तिकड़ी (लाला लाजपत राय, बाल गंगाधर तिलक और बिपिन चंद्र पाल) के सदस्य थे, जिसने ब्रिटिश शासन के खिलाफ कट्टर कार्रवाई और आत्मनिर्भरता पर जोर दिया।
लाला लाजपत राय के योगदानों में शैक्षणिक संस्थानों की स्थापना, सामाजिक सुधारों की वकालत और स्वदेशी आंदोलन का समर्थन शामिल था, जिसमें उन्होंने लोगों से भारतीय निर्मित वस्तुओं का उपयोग करने का आग्रह किया। दुर्भाग्यवश, वह 1928 में साइमन आयोग के खिलाफ शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन के दौरान एक क्रूर पुलिस हमले के बाद चोटों का शिकार हो गए, इस घटना ने स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन को और तेज किया।

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE  :  

Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai and to honor his legacy and recognize his lasting contributions to Bharat’s journey to freedom this coin was issued in 2015.

Lala Lajpat Rai was one of Bharat’s greatest freedom fighters, social reformers, and thinkers. Born on January 28, 1865, known as the “Lion of Punjab,” he played an instrumental role in Bharat’s struggle for independence.  He was part of the famous Lal-Bal-Pal trio (Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and Bipin Chandra Pal), which emphasized radical action and self-reliance against British rule.

Lala Lajpat Rai’s contributions included founding educational institutions, championing social reforms, and supporting the Swadeshi movement, urging people to use Bharat-made goods. Tragically, he succumbed to injuries after a brutal police assault during a peaceful protest against the Simon Commission in 1928, an event that further fueled the freedom movement.
